Good Places to Eat Near Simon-Dach Straße

Simon-Dach Straße (street) in Berlin-Friedrichshain has an abundance of restaurants, cafés, and bars. It's a tourist hot spot! Most places are reasonably priced, but the quality of food is generally mediocre. These businesses rely on the tourist trade, not on repeat customers so the quality suffers. Most of the locals avoid the eateries on Simon-Dach Str. and head to the smaller, less glitzy places that are nearby. Here are some of my favorites:

Café Melt
Grünbergestr. 40
10245 Berlin
Mon, Wed.-Thurs. 8:00 am-8:00 pm,
Closed Tues.
Friday-Sunday 9:00 am-8:00 pm

A small but beautiful café that serves delicious food. The service is superb, and the coffee is GREAT (the owner is French). The crepes, macaroons, and quiches are all top quality! This place is top notch. I feel like I am in Paris.

Kopernikusstr. 17
10245 Berlin
M-Thurs., Sun. 11:00 am-2:00 pm,
Friday & Sat. 11:00 am-3:00 pm

A no frills Pizza Restaurant with tasty pizza at a reasonable price. Outdoor seating is available.

Yoginis Cafehaus
Niederbarnimstr. 16
10247 Berlin
M-F 7:30 am-7:00 pm,
Sat. & Sun. 9:30 am-6:00 pm

Sit under the trees and enjoy a wonderful cup of coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. Only a few blocks from tourist ground zero, the locals come here to escape the map carrying hoards clogging Simon-Dach Str. Newspapers and magazines are available (German only).

Bäckerei & Konditorei Nicolai
Niederbarnimstr. 2
10247 Berlin
M-F 7:00 am-6:00 pm,
Sat.-Sun. 9:00 am-5:00 pm

Great baked goods!  Fresh breads, cakes, pies, and snacks all served in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Outdoor seating is available. Leave the frenzy of Simon-Dach Str. and come here.
